From 2nd to 4th May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Germany, Denmark, and France. This will be Modi’s first overseas trip this year. He will hold bilateral talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the first leg of his Berlin visit. They will co-chair the sixth edition of the India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations. Several Ministers from both sides participate in the biennial IGC, which is a unique dialogue format.
Chancellor Scholz and PM Modi will be holding their first IGC under the new German government, which assumed office in December last year. Chancellor Scholz and the Prime Minister will jointly address a Business Forum during their visit. The Prime Minister will also interact with the Indian community in Germany.
Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Denmark, has invited PM Modi to Copenhagen for an official visit. He will also attend the 2nd Indo-Nordic Summit being hosted by Denmark. During his visit to Denmark, he will meet Prime Minister Frederiksen and speak to Queen Margrethe II. The Green Strategic Partnership was a first of its kind between Denmark and India. Both sides can assess progress and explore ways to deepen their multifaceted cooperation. PM Modi will attend the India-Denmark Business Forum and address members of the Indian diaspora during his visit.
During the 2nd India-Nordic Summit, Prime Minister will also interact with other Nordic leaders which include Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir of Iceland, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store of Norway, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson of Sweden and Prime Minister Sanna Marin of Finland. It will focus on topics such as post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, innovation and technology, renewable energy, the evolving global security scenario, and India-Nordic cooperation in the Arctic region. The 1st India-Nordic Summit was held in Stockholm in 2018.
The Prime Minister will make a brief stopover in Paris on the last leg of the tour, where he will meet the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. The Indian and French governments have been celebrating their diplomatic relations for 75 years this year, and the meeting between the two leaders is expected to pave the way for a more ambitious Strategic Partnership in the future.
