PM Modi to participate in Quad Leaders Summit in Tokyo on May 24

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Tokyo on the 24th of this month at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The summit will be attended by US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. According to External Affairs Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi, the Summit in Tokyo will be the fourth interaction between Quad Leaders since their first meeting last year. Leaders will be able to discuss contemporary global issues of mutual interest during the upcoming Quad Summit, he said. Strategic guidance and vision for future collaborations will be provided, as will updates on Quad Initiatives and Working Groups.

Both leaders will have the opportunity to continue their discussions from the 14th India Japan Annual Summit held in New Delhi in March. Mr Modi will attend business events with Japanese business leaders during his visit. He will also interact with members of the Indian community in Japan. He will also meet US President Joe Biden on a one-on-one basis. Following up on discussions held in the Prime Minister’s bilateral meeting last September with the US President, the two leaders will review the India-US Strategic Partnership. They will further discuss regional and global developments of mutual interest.

There is also likely to be a bilateral meeting between Mr Modi and his Australian counterpart. The Australian parliamentary election is scheduled to take place on the 21st of this month. As part of the discussion, the two leaders will examine the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and exchange views on current global and regional issues.
