PM Modi returns from a successful trip to three European countries

After concluding his successful visit to Germany, Denmark, and France, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to Delhi. This was his first foreign trip in 2022. Germany’s Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz met with Mr Modi in Berlin, and the two leaders co-chaired the sixth India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations. PM Modi’s first IGC with Chancellor Scholz was also the first such Government-to-Government consultation of the new German government, which came to power in December last year. Mr Modi and Mr Scholz jointly addressed a Business Event during the visit. He also spoke to the Indian community in Germany and interacted with them.

PM Modi returns from a successful trip to three European countriesIn the second leg of his visit, Mr Modi travelled to Copenhagen and participated in the second India-Nordic summit hosted by the Danish government. A bilateral component of the trip included talks with Danish PM Mette Frederiksen as well as an audience with Queen Margrethe II. Both sides were given the opportunity to evaluate the progress of the cooperation as well as consider ways to further expand it.

As part of his visit, the Prime Minister participated in the India-Denmark Business Forum and met with diaspora Indians. During the 2nd India-Nordic Summit, Prime Minister also interacted with other Nordic leaders – Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir of Iceland, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store of Norway, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson of Sweden and Prime Minister Sanna Marin of Finland.

There was a strong emphasis on post-pandemic economic recovery, climate change, innovation and technology, renewable energy, the evolving global security scenario as well as India-Nordic cooperation in the Arctic region during the summit. In 2018, the first India-Nordic summit was held in Stockholm, Sweden. Mr Modi briefly stopped over in Paris yesterday on his way back to Delhi and met with French President Emmanuel Macron.
