The foundation stone of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) in Jamnagar, Gujarat, was laid today by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On this occasion, the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, and the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus, were also present. Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bhutan Lotay Tshering and Prime Minister of Nepal Sher Bahadur Deuba conveyed their greetings through video messages.
The WHO-Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar, established by Prime Minister Modi, will be dedicated to bridging ancient wisdom and modern science together. He said the center should develop a holistic treatment protocol for specific diseases so that patients can benefit from both modern and traditional treatments. As PM Modi explained, the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine will compile data that will be valuable in formulating policies for safe and cost-effective use of traditional medicines.
He said that India would do every bit of justice to this newly established partnership between the WHO and India. This is because it will offer one of the highest quality health care systems in the world through this centre. The GCTM will be the first and only global outpost center for traditional medicine across the globe. It will serve as an international hub for global wellbeing. On this occasion, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, and Union Ayush Minister Sarbanand Sonowal were also present.
