Defense Minister exhorts US firms to jointly develop defence equipment

India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has urged US companies to take advantage of the policy initiatives taken by the NDA government to develop, manufacture, and maintain defence equipment in India in order to support Make in India, Make for the World initiatives. He gave a virtual address today at the 30th Annual General Meeting of the American Chamber of Commerce in India. The US companies were invited to co-produce, co-develop, promote and develop Maintenance Repair and Overhaul facilities in India.

Defense Minister exhorts US firms to jointly develop defence equipmentA number of government initiatives were outlined to facilitate partnerships between Original Equipment Manufacturers and Indian companies. He noted that US companies have not only provided FDI and employment in India, but also contributed to India’s defence exports totaling nearly $2.5 billion to the US in the last five years. The participation of US entities in joint R&D and industrial collaborations with Indian public and private sectors is vital to the success of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and to further strengthen the US-India relationship.
